A Portrait Of A Woodcarver | Martin Sommerville

Just like everyone else during the lockdown, I have been taking advantage of the outside world. Walking has been a mental release and I always enjoy discovering new places. During one of my recent walks, I meandered through Sneinton Market, a recently developed creative hub with a bustling food scene and coffee scene.

Here I saw Martin carving away at a piece of wood, the workshop was so aesthetically pleasing that I had to capture it on film. Martin Sommerville is a Woodcarver/Artist based in Nottingham. He’s been creating wood-based art for over seven years and has set up a woodworking workshop in Sneinton Market.

This is a simple video portrait about him, what he does, and what inspires him to be creative.

I shot this on the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k with the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 Art series lens and the Tamron 24-70 G2.
